A warm welcome to our website.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to welcome you to the 2014 Age
Anaesthesia Association Scientific Meeting Website.
This year, as with all the previous meetings, we are aiming to provide you with education, debate and opportunities
to interact with like-minded professionals whose interest is to improve care for
the growing older surgical population.
With the launch of the elderly supplement in Anaesthesia and the updated Anaesthesia glossy on perioperative care of the older
surgical patient, this meeting will explore in more detail some of the highlighted
issues and problems such as frailty, and blood conservation in surgery. As well as
the keynote lecture on delirium and perioperative management, this year I am pleased
to welcome our guest lecture from the Ethics and Law in Medicine Society on a subject
that affects us all.
I also look forward to our annual debate, this time on the
issue of postoperative cognitive dysfunction which I hope will generate a lot of
interest and audience participation. Lastly, as with previous years, we are hosting
the 2 networks which were launched from this Association: the neck of femur fracture
and the emergency laparotomy networks. Both require your support and contributions.
I hope that you can join us for this meeting which has something for everyone whether
you are an anaesthetist, physician, surgeon or allied health professional. Please
have a look at the programme and see for yourself!! I believe the most important
factor in achieving good care for these patients is teamwork and good communication
amongst all healthcare providers.
See you in Edinburgh!
